About Me <3
Hi, I’m Karen ✨
I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember. Growing up, anytime my family went to any store (especially dollar stores or discount shops) I made a beeline straight for the stationery and school supplies. I loved knowing that I could turn almost anything into a craft.
In third grade, I begged my mom to teach me how to hand sew. Once she did, I started making little heart-shaped bags out of felt and selling them for 50 cents.
That was my first business, honestly 😌
In middle school, my mom fell into selling Mary Kay (as many moms did), and for me it was a dream. She had endless little makeup samples, just enough to experiment with. I was hooked.
That obsession led me straight into the beauty community on YouTube, where I learned everything I could about makeup. To me, beauty was art. I’ve always hated being boring or basic ;/ it felt like the biggest insult to my super creative soul. I knew there had to be more customization, more expression, more fun.
Customization followed me everywhere.
In high school, I had a friend who sold handmade bows. I wanted a specific one to match my pin-up style at the time, but she told me no ,she was limited to whatever fabric prints she could find. I was appalled.
So I took matters into my own hands, taught myself how to paint anchors onto a bow, and made it myself. My experience with sharp eyeliner wings came in handy 😏
From there, I couldn’t stop.
I painted everything. Eventually canvases. First with acrylic ink, then oil paint when I discovered it in college. I’ve always joked that I wanted to learn everything in every aisle at Michaels: baking, painting, drawing, clay, scrapbooking, jewelry, yarn… I wanted it all.
Fashion became another canvas.
In high school I was obsessed with baking and pastry because I wanted to make edible art. I even made it my college major. Years later, that obsession evolved into wearing my art, first embroidery, and now screen printing.
But something shifted.
This time, I wanted my art to be fun and meaningful. I thought deeply about what I needed to hear, see, and be reminded of—and what others might resonate with too.
I know I’m not alone in struggling with imposter syndrome or negative beliefs. I’m a Sagittarius, so outwardly I’m optimistic and positive, especially around others. But when I’m alone, my inner saboteur can get loud. Add in past experiences and the way this country treats people who look like me, and it’s hard to ignore the negativity entirely.
That’s why I created the
SEE IT AND SAY IT collection.
These pieces are affirmations you tell yourself, words you can actually read when you look in the mirror. The text is mirrored, meaning only you can truly read it (though yes, some people are surprisingly good at reading backwards lol).
It makes the message 100% personal.
Streetwear brands and metal bands have been making barely-legible designs forever, so the idea that the general public doesn’t immediately understand the message felt natural to me. There’s also something powerful [and kind of secret] about wanting to better yourself quietly.
Like yeah, it’s cool to be self-deprecating and just vibe.
But it’s also okay to work on yourself without announcing it.
Maybe it’s my Scorpio placements, but I don’t need everyone to know I’m talking kindly to myself, repeating affirmations, and manifesting my desired outcomes every time I step in front of a mirror.
That’s the vibe.
And I know a lot of you will rock with it.
If that’s not your cup of tea, that’s okay too, because I’m constantly making other designs that are cool, silly, or simply something I want to see in the world. So I create it.
If you found me through roller skating, just know I’m deeply in love with skating and there will absolutely be skating-related art here too.
There’s a lot to me, and this website is a new place for me to share all of it—without algorithms, without pressure, just art.
Welcome.
I hope you enjoyed your visit and come back often.
I love you, baby karrots 🤍🥕
